I’m Unstoppable!

I JUST GRADUATED COLLEGE AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HECK I’M DOING!

Is there anyone else who has this thought, or a similar one, running through their head like… 24/7? On graduation day I walked across that stage thinking, “I am on top of the freaking world!” Unstoppable by Zadie Grey was my theme song for the day. It wasn’t until about a week later that my “unstoppable” feeling wore off. And when I say “wore off” I mean, it was gone. Nowhere to be found.

By the time I found a job, the unstoppable feeling returned in full force. But I’m here to tell you, one month into my new job, it’s wearing off. I just completed my “Exit Counseling for Federal Loans” and am in the process of purchasing a car. On top of all of that, I am taking a trip to Rome in about one week. Yikes!

Life can never give us one thing at a time, am I right? It always has to occur one after another. That is just the way that it goes. It really is so important to remember, you are not alone; you are not the only one struggling. If you are (or have been) feeling anything like what I am describing, understand that other people are going through the exact same thing. I’m right there with you!

When I feel overwhelmed and stressed, there are some things that I absolutely have to remember, and I think they are applicable to people in all walks of life.

Do not kick yourself for your decisions. Don’t do the “if only i had…” or “i wish i did… instead of …” Do you know who that helps? Absolutely NO ONE. And it will make you feel even worse than you already do.

Take a deep breath. Now take one more. Look at your decisions and understand, you are not able to do a single thing to change them. They are set in stone. You made choices that, maybe weren’t the best, or maybe were the best for the time and situation, but understand whichever is applicable, you can do nothing to change the outcome now. The only thing you can do is learn from your past decisions. If you don’t like the way you did something, don’t do it again!

Understand that you are strong enough and smart enough to get through this. People who are not as smart as you have gotten through what you are going through. This always makes me feel really good because I have this bad/weird habit of seeing myself as an idiot. Anyone else? Yeah, you are totally not an idiot, but when you feel like one, just know that dumber people have figured it out which means you can definitely figure it out.

Use your resources. When you feel burdened, and are carrying too much, relieve that! There are so many ways that people can do this. Many people find relief in a range of activities. Find what works for you and use that to blow off steam.

Talk to someone in your life. Relieve some of that weight you are carrying around by explaining what is going on. Most likely, this person won’t solve all your problems, but they will probably have advice and *hopefully* a hug for you.

Write it out. This one definitely works for me, and is a huge reason this post is being written. Writing is a great way to say what is on your mind without anyone actually hearing you. When writing, you can edit your thoughts before it reaches anyone. It’s a great way to release lots of feelings in a personal way. Another reason to love writing is because you can look back at your thoughts and examine growth.

Everything will be okay, even if it doesn’t feel like it. You will get past this. You are stronger than whatever is pushing you down. Push back. Don’t allow stress to grab ahold of you and pull you under. You’ve got to remember that this seems like a “bad time” for this to be happening, but there is not a “good time” for it to happen. Get this out of the way so you can get back to feeling Unstoppable.

(Every time I used the word “Unstoppable” I hyperlinked a song to empower you when you need to be reminded of your ability to thrive!)
