Empower Women This International Women’s Day

Happy Wednesday folks! Just two days away, March 8th is international women’s day. Empowering women every single day is valuable and important, but I want to share some ways in which you can empower women this Friday.

[Shop At Local, Women Owned Businesses]

Instead of shopping at Target, H&M, or another large corporate store, support a local female in your area. Most of the time, you find a more personalized experience. The store owner is likely behind the counter and eager to share their dream with you. It is not going to be just another store clerk but someone who really loves their product and wants you to love it, too.

Businesses In The GR Area : Bailey & James, Books & Mortar, Le Bon Macaron, and Outside Coffee Co.

[Read Books Written By Females]

Most of us probably already do, but start to grow the authors on your book shelf to represent more females. Try to read books about women in other countries, women immersed in other cultures, and women with stories that contrast your own. This can allow you to examine your experience vs other females and their daily lives.

Authors I recommend : Angie Thomas, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nicola Yoon, and Lisa Sharon Harper.

[Follow Powerful Women Outside Of Your Social Sphere]

On your social media platforms, diversify the women you follow. Support women who are breaking stereotypes and doing something awesome. A good place to start is by following women who support causes you aren’t directly affected by and don’t fully understand. Reaching a middle ground is a fantastic way for women to come together and create a better future.

Notable Women I Follow : @rachelcargle, @jennakutcher, @ocasio2018, @ava, @jameelajamilofficial, @westmichiganwoman, @michelleobama, @ashleygraham

[Encourage The Representation Of All Females]

Feminism is not effective when we leave out people groups; this is not about empowering one type of woman, it is about empowering ALL women. We need to band together and listen to each other. Someone’s experience is going to look completely different from yours; we can never make progress unless we are willing to listen.

This international women’s day I am encouraging you to support and uplift other women. We are all in this together and we do better when everyone has a seat at the table. Make some room this Friday!

I stand

on the sacrifices

of a million women before me

thinking

what can I do

to make this mountain taller

so the women after me

can see farther
